NASCAR's Greg Biffle presents check
On Monday, February 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Friends for Animals Humane Society of Burke County located at 417 Kirksey Drive in Morganton, Greg Biffle presented raffle winner Peg DeMarco with a check for $11,388.20. Ms. DeMarco then donated $10,000 of her winnings to Friends for Animals Humane Society of Burke County where she serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors. She donated the remaining portion to other animal rescue groups, such as HSUS, the World Wildlife Fund, SPCA International, and to a shelter in Winston-Salem that suffered fire damage last year. Toni Davis, Friends for Animals Humane Society’s Director, was on hand to accept Peg’s donation at the shelter and led Biffle on a tour of their facility. Friends for Animals, incorporated in March of 1997, began in the backyard of Toni and Ed Davis. It has grown into the largest no-kill animal shelter in Western North Carolina and has found homes for over 10,000 abandoned animals. Ms. DeMarco’s name was drawn from thousands of entries in an on-line Split-the-Pot for Pets raffle benefitting The Greg Biffle Foundation and hosted by Charity Splits. Peg and the Foundation each received $11,388.20 as a result of this first ever on-line raffle. “This money allows us to award grant dollars to 4 or 5 animal welfare groups to fund programs like spaying and neutering animals.” said Emily DiNunzio, Executive Director of The Greg Biffle Foundation. “Peg turning around and donating a large amount of her winnings to another animal welfare group is exactly what we had in mind when we designed this split the pot on-line raffle program. We couldn’t have asked for a better result.” said Ryan West, of Charity Splits. The Greg Biffle Foundation was founded in 2005 by Greg and Nicole Biffle to create awareness and serve as an advocate to improve the well-being of animals by engaging the power and passion of the motor sports industry. Financial support for the foundation comes from a variety of sources including individual contributions, NASCAR Pets Calendars, and the sale of various racing and other sports memorabilia. Since its creation, The Greg Biffle Foundation has awarded grants to humane societies and animal shelters from coast to coast. Representing the best interests of the animals and using the full potential of each participant's involvement is the purpose for the Greg Biffle Foundation. Greg and Nicole have three dogs – Foster and his daughter Gracie, a pair of Boxers who are very familiar to race fans across the country. Foster even graced the front of a Milk Bones box in 2004. The latest addition is Savannah, who was rescued from a Georgia shelter.
